BMW Suspension System

Have you ever driven in a go-cart? Or maybe ride on the back of a shopping cart through the parking lot at the grocery store? When you have a feeling for what rigid or virtually no suspension system feels like.

If that grocery cart hit a pothole, you would be famous for “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and “You Got To See This!” all in 3 seconds flat.

This is why your vehicle’s suspension system is so important. You un-intentionally hit potholes, bumps, curbs, dips, rocks and uneven roads every time you drive your BMW. If your suspension system is well maintained, it has you covered.

What parts are in my BMW’s suspension system?

  • Wheels and Tires
  • Springs
  • Shock Absorbers & Struts
  • Linkages, Tie Rod Ends
  • Bushings Bearings & Joints
  • Steering System (Every component that turns your wheels.)
  • Hydraulic Power Steering
  • Electric Power Steering

I’m sure you would love to learn each and everything about all of those parts, but for now, I’m going to spare you.

This is what you (and your wallet) will love about your BMW’s suspension system.

Suppose you are driving down the road and you hear a clunk or a thud and think “That’s it, I need to replace the entire suspension system”. Now if you were to replace every single part of the suspension system that would equal a wallet-busting number.

However, most of the time those clunks, thuds or bangs are actually just one or two parts that are worn out. Now you can take a huge sigh of relief knowing that keeping your BMW’s suspension system maintained is not going cost you an arm and a leg, or your bank account.

Let me give you an example…

We recently had a client that said, “As I accelerate, I hear a clunk, then when I hit the brakes I hear another clunk.” He described the sound as coming from below him.

We took his BMW out and yep, that is exactly what it sounded like.  With some further diagnosis, it turned out to be a tie rod end. Over time, tie rods wear down and need to be replaced. The parts, labor, and diagnosis all ended up being reasonable.

This was a huge relief for the customer who thought it would be 5X that because he didn’t know much about the suspension system.

We find that our clients appreciate that we can explain the problem to them in a way they understand and help lower the worry and frustration of auto repair. We want to do that for you as well.

If you have any questions or hear a thud, bang, clunk on your BMW (hopefully not a boom). Give us a call. We are happy to practice car noises with you or answer your questions and if needed book a time for you to come in for service.
